“Time is clay, make something of it”
— Jan Bots
The man behind the artist
Jan Bots was born on December 3rd 1957 in Geertruidenberg, the Netherlands. At an age of 30, work took him to most southern province of the Netherlands, - Limburg -, where he, together with a colleague, just for fun attended an evening class of throwing pots. After a few evenings clay going everywhere, he managed to get his first piece of pottery.
It was the start of many, …… some cracked, some were over- or under-glazed, some stuck to the kiln but there were also moments of excitement, when opening the kiln and seeing the pottery displayed in the shop.
He is the proud father of two sons and lives close to Breda with his beloved wife.
When throwing clay, all daily troubles fade away and life is reduced to the basics.
The man, his wheel and the clay.
And in 2022 a question came up…. pottery deserves elegant tables to do displayed on. So a section of the site has been devoted on attempts to achieve this “Pottery on tables”.
